Challenges in Math:

Each week we complete several group problems in class. We will star any problems that are challenge/extra credit for students who want to push their mathematical thinking. They will receive extra points based on the level of work they do. The goal of these questions is to push students to think about our math in a different way. The challenge questions are...well...challenging! Below are also some problems that are above and beyond our weekly classwork. Try a few and then attach them to your next packet. Good luck!
Math Pedagogy:

ALL students can learn math at high levels. Check out Jo Boaler's work out of Stanford for more information & research about how we teach and learn mathematics!
Math Resources:

There are so many resources available to you! Check out some ways you can practice your math below. If you find new resources, let me know so we can add them to our list!

How Can You Help Your Student?:

Step 1: Just ask questions!

-
What important information did you pull from the problem?
-
What do you know about ________ (content being covered - example: fractions)?
-
What did you try first?
-
What part of the question are you having trouble with?
-
Do you think that this is a reasonable answer?
-
Is there another way that you could get the same answer?
-
Is there more than one answer to the problem? How do you know?

Step 2: If you're student is stuck (I don't expect you to help too much!), please set a timer and then have your student send an email or attend morning tutoring for support. We're here to help!
